Intel Extends Storage Capabilities In Data Center, Internet Of Things With SSD Blitz

Intel has recently released an affordable enterprise SSDs focused on applications of data center and the Internet of Things.

3-D NAND chips are used to built this new SSDs, considered as a replacement for traditional hard disk drives. It increases IT experience of customers, improves services and apps performance, decreases IT costs, and all this as per Bill Leszinske, Intel Vice President and Director of Strategic Planning, Marketing and Business Development for NSG.

He said “These new SSDs reflect Intel’s 30-year commitment to memory technologies and our long-term plan to transform the economics of storage with trusted, breakthrough 3D NAND technology from Intel. Intel is uniquely positioned to address multiple market segments simultaneously from consumer to business, Internet of Things and data center. This broad array of new 3D NAND SSDs expands the reach of PCIe solutions.”

According to Intel, NVMe protocol is supported by SSD, allows faster throughput than SATA done for hard drives.

DC P3520 series of SSDs were optimized to offer lucrative performance focused on partners who deals with read-intensive applications in cloud computing including web hosting and storage virtualization. These SSDs having a storage capacity of 450 GB begins at $294 and for 2TB storage capacity, offered at a price up to $984.

Intel’s DC S3520 SSDs data center series meant for the entry-level clients making the initial conversion from hard disk drives to SATA solid state drives. SATA is a new standard technology which connects SSDs to computers.

According to Intel, for the data center, performance and cost both get balanced by this series thereby results in “significant” latency and continuous improvements. Series having a storage capability of 150 GB begins at a price of $89 and for 1.6TB capability, till $739 is charged.

According to Donna Shepard, Senior Vice President of Dallas-based M&A Technology, existing storage sales of partners gets increased by the new SSDs, specifically for the applications of data centre.

She said “We’re excited because we feel it increase storage capacity for reliable data,” this is necessary for the data center. When you have such a large arrangement of customers where data is being backed up, it is critical to have these SSDs. Intel puts money into improving good products – it entices partners and gives brands more credibility.”

Intel’s E 6000p series focused on the channel partners for the Internet of Things market. These channel partners implement applications of Internet of Things such as digital signage and point of sale devices.

PCIe used by this series comes in the gum stick-sized M.2 form factor. Core vPro processors of Intel used for enhancing security and manageability features for Internet of Things applications.

Internet of Things applications targeted by the E 5420s Series with an extra data protection layer, results in reliable reading or writing of data, even if clients face any power loss. Intel does not mention prices on their IoT SSD series.

Intel also launches two more series, 600p, and 6000p focused on customer applications for desktops and notebooks in the consumer and business markets, respectively.

In March, new SSDs geared toward entry-level cloud and data center deployments and Internet of Things applications.
